We had such a wonderful couple of days with Penny & John but reluctantly all too soon, it was time to leave. So after another delicious lunch on the veranda, John helped Carlos reverse out of the drive. Slowly we approached the steep road but having found a button on the dashboard with an icon of a MH looking as if it was ski-ing down a slope, which we activated, it really helped by keeping the engine in a low gear and so we made it safely down to the bottom of the road. Phew!
Our next destination was only half an hour away, past the Circuit Paul Ricard, Le Castellet, Var, which is hosting the formula 1 French Grand Prix being held this June. I know Carlos would love to attend this event as he is a huge motor racing fan but sadly, not this time! The road from Penny’s to Cuges-les-Pins is infamous for being windy & steep therefore it attracts motorbikers by the score. Equally, there were many warning signs on the road as well as several memorials to lost souls. Sure enough, we passed a lot of bikers hurtling past us and the speeds with which they approached the hairpin bends was breathtaking!
The Aire at Cuges cost €4.30 and for that we were afforded the security of a barrier as well as water, a chemical waste disposal point and a place to dispose of our grey water. It was set amongst pine trees but once again, high winds meant another sleepness night.
We had visitors in the morning….three billy goats with huge horns.
